Building a stone fence conventionally can be extremely expensive. The most common way of constructing stone fencing nowadays is with a concrete besser block structure. Core filled with concrete as required. Then to fix the stone veneer over the besser blocks. Footings should be engineered adequate for the weight and load requirements. An engineers report and specification is mandatory in most Australian States if walls are above 1 metre in height. Check with your local council guidelines. With an average cost of $600 a square metre to build a besser block structure, including footings, adding stone then becomes costly. Especially if it is a two sided finish. With the average cost to supply and install stone veneer at $200 - $300 a sq metre, that makes it $800 - $900 a square metre one side, and $1100 for both sides, plus capping stones. All up costs.
